How to Find IP Address: How to Find the IP Address on a Mac

How to Find Your IP Address on a Mac
To find your public IP address, open your preferred web browser and type "what is my IP address" into Google. Your public IP address should be displayed at the very top of the search results page in its own separate box.
If you don't want to use Google, you can manually find your public IP address.
1. In your Mac's Finder, click the Apple icon in the upper-left corner of the screen.
2. From the drop-down menu, select System Preferences.
3. Select the Network icon.
4. Select your internet connection from the left-hand column (this will appear as Ethernet, USB, or Wi-Fi depending on the nature of your connection).
5. Select Advanced.
6. Select the TCP/IP tab from the Advanced menu.
7. Copy the address of your router (located below the Subnet Mask).
8. Open your web browser and type or paste the address of your router into the navigation bar, then hit Return. This will take you to the settings page for your router.
9. In your router's settings, look for Connection Status or WAN (Wide Area Network) to find your public IP address. To see these options, you'll probably need to log in as administrator when accessing your router.
How to Find Your Private IP Address on a Mac
Finding your private IP address is a little easier than finding your public IP address—though not as simple as a Google search.

What’s the Difference Between a Public and Private IP Address?
A public IP address is the address used to connect to the internet and can apply to a single computer or an entire network. A private (or "local") IP address is used to access a local network and is assigned to individual connected devices by your router. Although devices on different networks can share the same private IP address, no two systems can share the same public IP address at the same time.
