EA confirms a new Iron Man game, with more Marvel-EA projects to be announced later.
This is an exciting time to be a gamer and a fan of superheroes.
Rumors about an upcoming Iron Man game gained traction earlier this month, and now EA has lifted the veil on the upcoming title. Motive Studio, based in Montreal, will lead the game's development. Motive has previously worked on Star Wars Squadron and Star Wars Battlefront II, as well as the Dead Space Remake.
Motive's team includes industry veterans such as Oliver Proulx, who will lead the development team. This is a hugely exciting announcement for Marvel fans, as well as fans of single-player, third-person games, as Motive has confirmed that the game will be primarily focused on a single-player experience.
"We are thrilled to collaborate with the talented team at Motive Studio to bring their original vision of one of Marvel's most important, powerful, and beloved characters," said Bill Rosemann, Marvel Games' Vice President and Creative Director. To add to the flood of awesome superhero news, Motive Studio's press release appears to indicate that a number of new Marvel-EA projects are in the works.
Iron Man Game Confirmed in Pre-Production, Release Window Unclear
The news is out! ????We couldn’t be more thrilled to collaborate with @MarvelGames on an all-new single-player, action-adventure Iron Man game. While we're still in early development, this is an exciting new adventure for our studio: https://t.co/zpuT61TKtV pic.twitter.com/309lhm02dY— Motive (@MotiveStudio) September 20, 2022
So far, the game has only been confirmed as being in pre-production, which means we are still a long way from knowing a firm release date for the title. Given the scale of Marvel's previous videogame titles, there is a good chance that the game will be released several years from now.
Nonetheless, this is an exciting time to be a gamer and a superhero fan, as there will be a slew of massive superhero games released in the coming years. Iron Man hasn't been explored as thoroughly as players would like, and given that Nolan North's portrayal of Tony Stark was one of Crystal Dynamic's Avengers game's redeeming qualities, there's no doubt fans would like to see more.
The scope of the new Iron Man game will be interesting to see, as will whether it can compete with games like Marvel's Spider-Man and Batman Arkham City.
