The Hand of God

Best Netflix Movies To Watch Right Now 91techinfo.com

Year released: 2021
Director: Paolo Sorrentino

The Hand of God is a melancholy coming-of-age novel set in mid-'80s Naples, when the world's greatest player, Diego Maradona, has sensationally signed to play for the city's top-flight side. It tells the story of a sensitive youth and Sorrentino surrogate Fabietto (the up-and-coming Filippo Scotti). The title alludes to Maradona's disputed goal against England in the 1986 World Cup, as well as the twist of fate that determines the protagonist's future existence.

The Hand of God gives some boisterous laughs within its unstructured, episodic framework; there's fun to be had hanging out with Fabietto's larger-than-life relatives, friends, and neighbours, as well as a fascinating drop-in on an extras-casting session for a Fellini picture. Not to be missed. Best Netflix Movies.

Tick, Tick... Boom!

Best Netflix Movies To Watch Right Now 91techinfo.com

Year released: 2021
Director: Lin-Manuel Miranda

whiz from Hamilton Tick, Tick... Boom! marks Lin-Manuel Miranda's directorial debut, and it's an exciting translation of a lesser-known piece by Rent creator Jonathan Larson. The film follows want tobe theatre composer Jon (Andrew Garfield) as his post-college fantasy collides with reality: he's working in a New York cafe in 1990 and has a desperate desire to stage his musical passion before he reaches 30. Miranda directs with vigour, avoiding the typical stage-to-screen difficulties while nailing the different musical numbers. An effusive Garfield is brilliant in his first singing part, while Miranda directs with zest, avoiding the usual stage-to-screen pitfalls while nailing the varied musical numbers. Dick Johnson Is Dead

Best Netflix Movies To Watch Right Now 91techinfo.com

Year released: 2020
Director: Kirsten Johnson

Dick Johnson Is Dead is one of those very few films that is so much more than that. The video centres on Dick Johnson, a man who is still living but will, like all of us, die one day. Kirsten Johnson, his daughter, is behind the camera, forcing her father to walk through numerous scenarios that could lead to his death. This is about coming to terms with mortality and the loss of loved ones, and it does so in an unexpectedly joyful yet melancholic manner. It's unlike anything else you've ever seen. The Power of the Dog

Best Netflix Movies To Watch Right Now 91techinfo.com

Year released: 2021
Director: Jane Campion

Jane Campion's first film since Bright Star in 2009 is a delicate take on sibling rivalry, buried emotions, and country life. The film is based on Thomas Savage's 1967 novel and takes place in 1920s Montana, in the world of the Burbank brothers, Phil (Benedict Cumberbatch) and George (Tom Hiddleston) (Jesse Plemons). George, the more scholarly of the two, runs the company, but Phil, the rough-hewn one, is more often found castrating calves.

Phil is enraged when George meets and marries Rose (Kirsten Dunst), the widowed mother of sensitive teen Pete (Kodi Smit-McPhee). Soon, he's berating Rose and ominously befriending Pete, who begins to self-medicate with alcohol. But there's more to this story than resentment and hatred, as Campion teases us with suggestions about secret love from the past, which may be perilous in cowboy country.

The Power Of The Dog is undoubtedly Campion's most graceful film since The Portrait Of A Lady or even The Piano, and it is beautifully filmed (with New Zealand doubling for the United States). True, it has a propensity to wander and casts Thomasin McKenzie from Last Night In Soho in an underpowered part. But at its core is a somber Cumberbatch, who delivers one of his most astute performances to date. Smit-McPhee also shines in The Road, especially when his character develops in the film's closing, unexpected third act. Best Netflix Movies

Passing

Best Netflix Movies To Watch Right Now 91techinfo.com

Year released: 2021
Director: Rebecca Hall

The period drama Passing, starring Tessa Thompson and Ruth Negga as mixed-race childhood friends who rejoin in adulthood and become obsessed with one another's lives, was a hit at film festivals. Both ladies 'pass' as white in New York City in the 1920s, but chose to live on opposing sides of the colour line. The film, which marks star Rebecca Hall's directorial debut, is shot in black and white and is based on Nella Larsen's novel of the same name. Best Netflix Movies

The Harder They Fall

Best Netflix Movies To Watch Right Now 91techinfo.com

Year released: 2021
Director: Jaymes Samuel

A quarter of cowboys were Black, according to estimates, but you'd never know it from Hollywood westerns, which whitewashed American history to the point where Mel Brooks found subversive humour in having a Black guy at the helm in 1974's Blazing Saddles. The Harder They Fall by Jeymes Samuel (as London singer/songwriter The Bullit's), like Mario Van Peebles' 1993 oater Posse, wants to shake things up and have a good time doing it, with its starry Black ensemble trading shots in exhilarating sequences of stylized violence paired to good music.

Many of The Harder They Fall's larger-than-life characters are historical individuals. But Samuel and his co-writer Boaz Yakin (Now You See Me, 2012's Safe) aren't above tampering with history, albeit in less dangerous ways. So, as Nat Love (Jonathan Majors) – as Deadwood Dick – reassembles his old crew, including former flame Stagecoach Mary (Zazie Beetz), to take down terrifying bandit Rufus Buck, we get a fictitious revenge tale that entangles lives that, in some cases, never did cross (Idris Elba). Only Buck has reunited with his own posse, including Regina King's 'Treacherous' Trudy Smith, LaKeith Stanfield's Cherokee Bill, and others. Legendary US Marshal Bass Reeves is also thrown into the fray (Delroy Lindo). A massive conflict looms on the horizon, rimmed in blood... Best Netflix Movies

Inside

Best Netflix Movies To Watch Right Now 91techinfo.com

Year released: 2021
Director: Bo Burnham

Inside with Bo Burnham isn't your typical comedy spectacular. Inside, which was created and launched during the Coronavirus outbreak, is unlike anything else produced at the time. It starts out with some wonderful songs about white women's Instagram profiles and Facetiming with your parents that will make you laugh out loud. Burnham addresses sadness, turning 30, Jeff Bezos, and rising disillusionment with the internet, but the film quickly turns introspective. We won't say much more because we don't want to give anything away, but the entire experience is a thought-provoking film that will make you reconsider your connection with being stuck indoors for months... Fear Street Trilogy

Best Netflix Movies To Watch Right Now 91techinfo.com

Year released: 2021
Director: Leigh Janiak

Fear Street Part 1: 1994 is a colourful addition to Netflix's repertoire, and it's a popcorn-friendly horror adventure. Kiana Madeira stars as Deena, a high school student who lives in Shadyside (sometimes known as "Shittyside"), a community plagued by serial killers. Every few years, a Shadyside goes on a murderous rampage, and Deena and her ex-boyfriend, Alex, become entangled in the riddle of why the hamlet appears to be cursed.

Fear Street is a must-see for anyone who wants to relive the '90s or simply enjoy a good slasher on a Saturday night. It's an R-rated version of R. L. Stine's novels ideal for teen sleepovers, squeamish first dates, and any other popcorn-friendly occasion. Not to be missed — and the two sequels are just as fantastic as the original, so they're well worth seeing as well. Best Netflix Movies

Army of the Dead

Best Netflix Movies To Watch Right Now 91techinfo.com

Year released: 2021
Director: Zack Snyder

After the success of Zack Snyder's Justice League, he returns with a heist film with an undead twist. Army of the Dead follows a group of mercenaries dispatched to a zombie-infested Las Vegas, where they must scavenge a large sum of money before the city is destroyed. The trouble is, these aren't your average shambling zombies – they're swift, strong, and well-organized, with a zombie tiger thrown in for good measure.

Dave Bautista, Omari Hardwick, Ana de la Reguera, Ella Purnell, and Matthias Schweighöfer are among the large cast members. There's also a prequel film and an animated series in the works, so there'll be plenty more if two and a half hours of zombie slaying action isn't enough for you. Best Netflix Movies

The Mitchells vs. The Machines

Best Netflix Movies To Watch Right Now 91techinfo.com

Year released: 2021
Directors: Michael Rianda and Jeff Rowe

Although Phil Lord and Christopher Miller are listed as producers, their fingerprints are all over this immensely pleasant Netflix cartoon, much as they were in Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse. The Mitchells Vs. The Machines is as irreverently funny as 21 Jump Street and The Lego Movie and shares a visual DNA with their wacky CG toon Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs. It also has a distinct visual style, similar to Spider-Verse, that encourages close examination.

The film follows the titular family of four (plus pug) as Katie (Abbi Jacobson of Broad City) prepares to leave home for film school. She prefers to fly, but her father Rick (Danny McBride) sees an opportunity to reconcile their strained relationship by transporting her, along with mother Linda (Maya Rudolph) and brother Aaron, cross-country to her dorm apartment (voiced by Rianda). The White Tiger

Best Netflix Movies To Watch Right Now 91techinfo.com

Year released: 2021
Director: Ramin Bahrani

Ramin Bahrani's darkly comedic drama has more in common with Parasite than it does with Slumdog Millionaire, despite being a vivid rags-to-riches story set in urban India. The White Tiger stars Adarsh Gourav as lowly driver Balram, whose eyes are opened to the metaphorical 'chicken coop' that holds the have-nots in their place while the wealthy thrive. It is based on Aravind Adiga's 2008 Booker-winning book of the same name. In this film version, the novel's deep societal critique still rings true. This one certainly wins a spot among the greatest Netflix films currently available. Best Netflix Movies

Malcolm & Marie

Best Netflix Movies To Watch Right Now 91techinfo.com

Year released: 2021
Director: Sam Levinson

The eponymous pair is played by John David Washington and Zendaya in this elegant black-and-white film about a filmmaker and his partner whose relationship is strained on the night of Malcolm's latest film's premiere. When production on the HBO show Euphoria, in which Zendaya also starred, was halted due to COVID-19, Zendaya and Levinson explored filming a feature film together instead.

Malcolm & Marie is the outcome, an intimate film that you will either love or hate. The film received five stars from one Total Film reviewer and two stars from another. Whether you like or dislike this Netflix film, you can't dispute that Washington and Zendaya deliver outstanding performances. Best Netflix Movies

Pieces of a Woman

Best Netflix Movies To Watch Right Now 91techinfo.com

Year released: 2020
Director: Kornél Mundruczó

Vanessa Kirby is well known for her portrayal of Princess Margaret in The Crown. She's as brilliant in Pieces of a Lady, offering a breathtaking performance as a woman dealing with the agony and grief of losing her newborn child.

Kornél Mundruczó directed the film, which also stars Shia LaBeouf. Not one to be taken lightly, especially with a one-take, nearly 30-minute-long birth scene. Kirby gives an outstanding performance throughout the film, earning her an Oscar nomination. And with good reason. Best Netflix Movies

Ma Rainey’s Black Bottom

Best Netflix Movies To Watch Right Now 91techinfo.com

Year released: 2020
Director: George C. Wolfe

Ma Rainey's Black Bottom stars Viola Davis as the titular Ma Rainey, a singer renowned as the "Mother of the Blues," and features Chadwick Boseman's final performance. Tensions mount as Ma Rainey confronts her manager and producer on a single afternoon in 1927, while Boseman's Levee, a trumpeter, has his own ambitious aspirations. Denzel Washington produces the picture, which is based on August Wilson's play of the same name.

Davis's proud, obstinate, blues-preaching Ma, determined not to be reduced to a ripped-off voice, generates substantial diva-power in the picture, with Davis generating hefty diva-power with her proud, obstinate, blues-preaching Ma, keen not to be reduced to a ripped-off voice. The film's actual power comes from Boseman's wiry, seething Levee, who imbues every rippling horn improv, violent God-taunting diatribe, and soft-shoe shuffle with the urgency of a man striving to leave his imprint through his art. His passionate, lyrical performance adds further power and poignancy to this forceful film. Best Netflix Movies

Mank

Best Netflix Movies To Watch Right Now 91techinfo.com

Year released: 2020
Director: David Fincher

Mank, David Fincher's long-awaited biopic of screenwriter Herman J. Mankiewicz, has been in the works for a long time. The film's script was written by Fincher's father, Jack, in the 1990s, but the idea didn't come to completion until this year. It follows Mankiewicz (Gary Oldman) as he works on Citizen Kane and his ties with newspaper magnate William Randolph Hearst (Charles Dance) and Hearst's mistress Marion Davies (Amanda Seyfried).

Both Oldman and Seyfried are fantastic, reaching new heights in their careers and deserving accolades. Furthermore, this is Fincher's first film since 2014's Gone Girl, and the filmmaker gives everything to Mank, editing it to perfection and transforming it into one of Hollywood's finest love letters to itself.
